Alabama PALS kicks off the 2024 "Don't Drop It On Alabama" Spring Cleanup

Alabama is gearing up for its annual statewide "Don't Drop It On Alabama" Spring Cleanup, scheduled to span the entire month of April according to a news release.

Coordinated by Alabama PALS (People Against a Littered State), the event is an essential part of the state's environmental stewardship efforts, involving partnerships with various organizations and volunteer groups statewide.

The cleanup initiative, a fixture on Alabama's calendar, is part of Alabama PALS' broader efforts to combat littering and promote environmental awareness. Partnering with organizations like Alabama Coastal Cleanup (in collaboration with ADCNR), Alabama Clean Campus Program and Alabama Adopt-A-Mile and Adopt-A-Stream programs (in partnership with ALDOT), Alabama PALS aims to mobilize communities across all 67 counties, municipalities, and volunteer groups.

In 2024, over 140 cities, counties and volunteer groups are set to participate in the cleanup endeavor.
Coca-Cola United returns as the Title Sponsor for the 2024 cleanup, enabling Alabama PALS to integrate recycling initiatives for plastic bottles and aluminum cans into the cleanup efforts.

"Coca-Cola United is proud of our role as the Title Sponsor of the statewide 2024 'Don't Drop It on Alabama Spring Cleanup,'" Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Coca-Cola United Andy Britton said in the release. "We are especially pleased with our annual partnership with Alabama PALS as we all move forward toward our goal of a world without waste."

Alabama PALS recognizes the invaluable support from its Sustaining Partners, including ALDOT, ALFA, Alabama Farmers Cooperative, Vulcan Materials Company, Honda, The Association of County Commissions of Alabama and The Poarch Band of Creek Indians, whose contributions have been instrumental in facilitating the cleanup activities.

The involvement of the Alabama Community College Systems campuses and Alabama RC&D Councils adds another layer of engagement to the initiative. Spencer Ryan, Executive Vice President of Alabama PALS, commended their commitment and hands-on approach, citing the significant impact of their participation in previous cleanup efforts.

"We are extremely proud of the commitment from the Alabama Community College Systems and RC&D, and appreciate the dedication and hands on approach from these dedicated partners, as well as the enthusiasm that is displayed from each ACCS campus," Ryan said. "The participation and results from the ACCS campuses in 2023 was a fantastic display of the partnership with ACCS."

With approximately 165,000 bags distributed statewide and all necessary materials provided to participating entities, Alabama PALS encourages volunteers to connect with local coordinators to join existing cleanups or organize their own within their communities.
