Suicide investigation halts traffic on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County

A reported suicide on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County is expected to cause traffic delays as investigators probe the incident, according to information shared on Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

Westbound lanes of I-10, spanning from the Malbis to Loxley exits, have been closed with authorities estimating a shutdown lasting two to three hours.

According to reports, the closure stems from a standoff involving deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office earlier today. Law enforcement personnel were engaged in a confrontation with a murder suspect wanted in the Hillsborough County, Florida, area. The standoff unfolded near Exit 38 on I-10 westbound, just east of the Malbis exit.

Around 3 p.m., the post mentioned that while one lane was anticipated to reopen soon, motorists are cautioned to expect delays and potential diversions. The post also cautioned about emergency vehicles being active in the vicinity and urging drivers to exercise vigilance and yield to responders.

To aid in traffic management, troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division have been dispatched to the affected area.
