BAY MINETTE, Ala.— Ride Yellow, the state’s largest bike ride took place June 18 in and around Bay Minette.

The10th anniversary ride included a new, rider-requested route of 20 miles in addition to the 6-mile tribute ride (slow pace); 10-mile flat course (suited to new riders); 37-mile (moderately hilly course for intermediate riders); and a 62-mile ride (experienced riders).

Sponsored by Infirmary Health, the charity bike ride, was founded in 2007 by Ann White-Spunner and Mary Trufant to raise awareness of cancer and to draft grassroots support for their mission of inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer. Since its inception, the Ride Yellow committee has donated more than $476,000 to various cancer charities.

“This year, year 10, is all about celebration,” said Ben Hansert, president of North Baldwin Infirmary. “Celebrating survivors, caregivers and 10 years of raising cancer awareness and funds for a disease that affects so many.

“Last year, on behalf of our sponsors, riders and some 200 volunteers, we proudly donated $37,000 to local organizations that help fight cancer. This year our goal is $50,000.”

Ride Yellow supports Infirmary Health’s goal of increasing health and wellness initiatives across the region, Hansert said.

“We are proud to be a part of such a dynamic event and to have it held in the Bay Minette community,” he said.
