Daphne High School announced its annual Hall of Fame induction banquet set for 6 p.m. tomorrow in Trojan Hall. Tickets cost $20.
Inductees include standouts in academics, athletics or the arts, along with parents of past students.
“The DHS Hall of Fame is unique in Baldwin County in that we recognize not only former standouts in athletics but also individuals who excelled in academics, band, the arts, and ROTC—along with the teachers and community members who contributed to their success,” Principal Don Blanchard said in a statement.
One inductee this year, Larry Clark, is the school’s assistant principal of 14 years. He was a classroom teacher for 17 years, teaching history. He implemented Daphne High’s character education program, and he said that one of the fondest memories in his time at Daphne High was the 2001 football state championship and the positive affect it had within the community.
When asked about if things have changed since he first started as assistant principal, he said, “I think the school has changed a lot.
“As far as discipline, I think the school is better behaved than back when I first got here. I guess that is by having principals who have remained here for a number of years, and that bring continuity. I think we are probably doing more as far as being in the spotlight, whereas earlier years they talked more about Fairhope. Now Daphne gets quite a bit of press about academic accomplishments.”
Other inductees include Roy and Mary Barnhill, David Carpenter, Sally Godard, Barbara Heninburg, Tim and Cecilia McKenzie, Louis Nero, Jeffery Ondraka, Barry Pennington, Steve Savarese, Kimberly Starling, William Stringer, Romarius Longmire, Jim Foster and G.B. Taylor, Sr.
Trojan Hall is located at the corner of Lawson Road and County Road 13. The public is invited to attend.
Inductees will also be introduced at halftime of the football game against Foley High School on Friday night.
