GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Gulf Shores Swim Team sent 18 swimmers to the Southeastern Swimming South District Championships meet, held Feb. 21-22 at the University of West Florida.

Gulf Shores finished in ninth place out of the 16 teams that attended the meet, which attracted 527 swimmers.

Jonathan Young, 16, achieved a qualifying time in the 100-yard Freestyle for the Southeastern Swimming Championships to be held this month.

He was joined by his sister, Abby Young, 9, who qualified in the 100-yard Breaststroke at this meet.

Savannah Kichler will also be traveling for the next level of competition in the 50- and 100-yard Butterfly events.

The championship meet will be held in Nashville at the Tracy Caulkins Aquatic Center and will feature swimmers from Alabama, Tennessee and the Florida Panhandle.

Lane Baker, Sammi Jo Daily, Savannah Kichler, Nate McGee, Olivia Murray, Garrett Robinson, Taylor Shannon, and Jonathan Young all scored points for the team at this seasonal penultimate meet.

Kichler led the Gulf Shores Dolphins with 45 team points.

Head coach Brook Monroe also mentioned Dalton Grady and Kayleigh Snow as swimmers that swam to numerous best times at this highly competitive swim meet.

“Of course I am happy with the results, but I still see room for improvement,” Monroe said. “I see potential in several of our younger swimmers and expect them to show even better results in the next season.”

The swim team will take a short break and then resume training for the Long Course Season and the popular Gulf Coast Area Aquatic League summer season.
