• Severe Monday rains delayed start. See updated schedule

Twenty-four area teams will open the 2016 high school baseball season in the 19th annual BayBears Classic today after Monday storms forced a delay. The teams continue through Thursday at six host sites — Spanish Fort, Robertsdale in Baldwin County and at Mary G. Montgomery, Baker, Theodore and Satsuma.

After playing three games each, the teams will be seeded 1-24 as the tournament shifts to Hank Aaron Stadium. Games will be played there Feb. 19,20, 22 and 23. The championship is st to be decided on Feb. 23. Theodore won last year's Classic, defeating UMS-Wright 3-1 in the championship game.

Other perennial baseball powers included in the tournament are Fairhope, Spanish Fort, Saraland, UMS-Wright, McGill-Toolen and defending Class 2A champion Mobile Christian.

Each school will play at least one game at the Hank. The Champion will be crowned in the final game of the tournament which will feature the top two seeds.
