FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Dr. Stan Self of Self Center P.C. in Fairhope announced the winner of his fourth Do A Good Deed contest. The award ceremony to honor winner Samantha Marie Cox of Daphne High School was held Nov. 19 at the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club and Spa.

Dr. Self presented her with a framed Certificate of Achievement, her framed winning essay and a laptop computer and printer. Samantha read her essay to a number of community leaders attending the ceremony, including Baldwin County Commissioner David Ed Bishop, Baldwin County Superintendent of Education Dr. Faron Hollinger, Daphne City Councilman John Lake; Daphne High School Assistant Principal Oliver Sinclair, Daphne Middle School Principal James “Tripp” Oliphant, Barbara Oliphant of Country Day School, David Clark, Grand Hotel general manager; Steve Woolley, Foley Career Center manager and his wife, Betty; and Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant.

Samantha’s mother an father, Lucinda and Jim Cox and her sister, Abigail, were also present along with other friends of the family. Numerous friends of the Self Center were also in attendance for the event. Samantha has been a leader in several projects she has initiated to help others. She has also been an exceptional student and is currently in the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program at Daphne High School. She has been involved in doing “good deeds” for a long time and is consistent in her efforts to make a difference for individuals.

Dr. Self believes that it is a responsibility of community leaders and businesses to recognize our youth for the positive things they contribute to this community. He began sponsoring a contest in 2006 in which applicants are instructed to write an essay on a recent good deed they did, why they did it, the principles upon which they based their actions, and the result of their actions.
