GULF SHORES, AL – Gulf Shores Police are reporting that a two-vehicle crash about 8:30 a.m. on April 30 on Fort Morgan Road resulted in the death of a 2015 Gulf Shores High School graduate.
Nathan Harris, a former football quarterback and baseball player at the school, was killed in the accident. Officials said Harris was riding a motorcycle when he was killed.
School officials said they were reserving comments at this time per wishes of the Harris family.
After leaving Gulf Shores Harris went to become a walk on for the Troy University football team and was the holder on field goals.
"This is an unthinkable tragedy and the thoughts and prayers of the Troy Athletics Department and the Troy University community are with Nathan's family and friends," Troy Athletics Director Jeremy McClain said in a release from the school. "It is devastating to see a young life end in such a heartbreaking way, and we will provide support and comfort for his teammates, friends and coaches as they go through the grieving process."
Harris, 19, joined the Troy football team as a walk-on this past semester and had worked his way up to the Trojans' starting holder. Prior to coming to Troy, Harris was the starting quarterback at Gulf Shores High School from 2012-14.
"Nate was a tremendous person and a very caring young man," Troy football head coach Neal Brown said. "While his time here at Troy University was brief, his impact was felt by many. He was loved by his teammates and had a positive effect on our team's culture in a short time."
