The Finance Committee will recommend that the City Council spend a maximum of $35,000 on the development of an access-management plan for Alabama Highway 181.
The study will look at where traffic signals and turn lanes should be placed, and how they will be accessible to subdivisions, according to Councilman Ron Scott.
The Alabama Department of Transportation, Daphne and the city of Fairhope will share the cost of the study, according to Bill Eady, planning director.
Daphne’s portion of the cost will come from the 2007 construction fund, which has about $90,000, according to Kim Briley, Daphne’s finance director.
A project to widen 181 from U.S. Highway 90 to U.S. 98 is under construction. Seven miles of the 16-mile stretch are within Daphne’s planning jurisdiction, according to Eady.
Daphne’s stretch includes more commercially-zoned property; Fairhope’s portion includes more residential zoning, according to Scott.
