DAPHNE, Ala. — Supporting Educa-tional Enrichment in Daphne’s School’s 4th Annual Mamma Mia Cook-off is set for 7 to 10 p.m., Nov. 8, outside City Hall.
Advance tickets — $25 per person — can be purchased at Daphne City Hall, Daphne Recreation Department, Will Hughes Catering and Market, Baldwin County Orthodontic Specialists, the Neighborhood School, The Frame Corner or online at seedsindaphne.org.
Tickets at the gate will cost $30.
“We’re very excited about it being on the grounds at City Hall,” Denise D’Oliveira, SEEDS executive director, said. “We felt like it was time to move to a bigger venue.”
The downtown cook-off for three years had been held on the grounds of Hutchinson, Moore and Rauch, an engineering firm across the street from W.O. Lott Park.
Two divisions— corporate and non-profit—will compete in four cooking categories. Each group will compete in either the beef, chicken, meatless or seafood category.
The groups will vie for Il Primo Premio, the first place prize. A first- and second-place “Mamma Mia Award” will be given to contestants who show extraordinary presentation and showmanship, according to a news release.
Main Street will be closed from Manci’s Antique Club to Triumph Street to make room for the celebration, according to D’Oliveira, who said proceeds help fund classroom grant programs.
SEEDS has distributed more than $83,000 to the five Daphne public schools and Christ the King Catholic School since 2005.
This year will include a preview party for sponsors at 6 p.m. in the atrium at City Hall; a guest chef from Italy will be on hand to serve specialty dishes to sponsors.
"He will be preparing dishes exclusively for the preview party," Kelly Hughes, Mamma Mia committee co-chairperson, said.
Another new feature is a printed program that will list all the teams and dishes, according to D’Oliveira. “We wanted to give a lot more recognition to the cooks involved,” she said.
State Rep. Randy Davis and the Jubilee Orchestra are scheduled to perform during the event, which also will feature a big-screen television, available for viewing the Auburn-Georgia football game.
Sponsorships received by Oct. 7 will be featured in event signage while cook-off teams registered by Oct. 21 will be included in the commemorative program.
