FOLEY, Ala. — The city of Foley will hold a public hearing Thursday, Feb. 13, to discuss the completion of a Community Development Block Grant project.
The public hearing will begin at 4 p.m. in Foley City Hall.
The project was conducted by Riviera Utilities to rehabilitate the public-sewer system of the Aaronville community.
According to Corley Lauderdale, engineer of Gas Water and Wastewater at Riviera Utilities, a $450,000 grant provided by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs funded almost half the project, with the utilities company covering the remaining finances.
“The total cost of the project was $991,000,” he said.
With that amount, Riviera repaired 21,000 feet of 8-inch clay pipe in Aaronville.
“The problem with old, clay pipes is that several things can happen,” Lauderdale said, explaining that age and environmental issues can cause cracks and lead to drainage problems.
With the rehabilitation project complete, Lauderdale said those problems are solved in Aaronville. Now, Riviera is looking to continue its rehabilitation of clay pipes in other areas of Foley.
In the meantime, residents and business owners with questions or comments about this recently completed project in Aaronville are encouraged to attend Thursday’s public hearing.
