DAPHNE, Ala. — A free, tax-season service that has been offered throughout Baldwin County for many years has now come to Daphne.
Trained volunteers of the AARP’s Tax-Aide program are helping low- to moderate-income residents on tax preparation and assistance at the Daphne Senior Center this tax season.
“The Daphne site is brand new. AARP has been providing this free income-tax preparation and filing for over 40 years,” Marianne Eddins, southwest Alabama AARP Tax-Aide coordinator, said. “We had enough volunteers and got enough computers to open a new site in Daphne this year.”
The group also offers the program in Fairhope, Foley, Lillian, Orange Beach and Mobile.
The Fairhope-based site had such a high response, it had to turn people away last year, Eddins said, and a large reason was because so many Daphne residents sought assistance.
Chuck Hill — the Daphne AARP Tax-Aide coordinator — decided to bring the service to Daphne, and it started on Feb. 1.
