William L. “Bill” Ackis, 74, a native of Birmingham and a resident of Silverhill, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009.
He was a retired deputy sheriff from the Escambia County, Florida Sheriff’s Department, served in the U.S. Navy and is a veteran of the Korean Conflict; worked on the Apollo Program in New Orleans as an instrument photographer; and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Pam A. Ackis of Silverhill; two daughters, Joy Steele of Robertsdale and Tammy McArdle of Chelsea; one sister, Annette Montgomery of Fairhope; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 26 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale with Father William James officiating. Burial followed at Silverhill Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.
