Bayside, Fairhope pick up wins in four-team round robin

DAPHNE, Ala. — Bayside Academy wrapped up their Admirals Classic Basketball Tournament with a 35-34 win over Citronelle High Dec. 21. Bayside got 10 points each from Harrison Biggs and Calvin Dulaney and six from Sam Grey.

Bayside led 15-12 at the half and 29-22 after three periods.

The Class 5A Wildcats rallied with a 12-6 run in the final quarter and pulled within a point with under a minute left in the game, but Bayside held on for the win thanks to strong middle quarters. Turner led the Wildcats with 12 points and Loper added 10.

The Admirals opened the three-day round-robin event with a 45-28 win over the Class 4A Satsuma Gators. Sam Koby led Bayside with a game-high 22 points and Biggs added 12.

In Fairhope’s opener, Murray State signee Tevin Brown had a game-high 27 points as Fairhope defeated Citronelle 64-39. Benni Gambino followed with 11 points, and C.J. Edwards scored 10 for Fairhope (8-5).

The Class 7A Pirates had an explosive 20-9 second-quarter run to take separate from the Class 3A Admirals.

The Pirates also defeated Bayside 52-32. Brown led with 15 points and Gambino added 11. Bayside was led by Koby with eight and Passons with seven.

In other contests: Jamerious Anderson led Baldwin County High with 18 points as the Tigers defeated Foley 64-39. Damian Adams and Tyler Lamar each scored 12 points for the Lions.

GIRLS BASKETBALL UPDATE:

Foley High defeated visiting Baldwin County High 52-40. Seven different Foley players scored for the Lady Lions with two players finishing in double digits. Senior Makayla Shoots had 16 points and freshmen Kaitlyn Knight scored 11 for the Lions.

Junior Tay Pugh and sophomore Ayanna Carvin both added seven points while also leading the team in rebounds. Foley rallied down the stretch with a 25-7 run in the fourth quarter.

Foley begins area play on the road Jan. 3, 2017 at Class 7A Area 2 rival McGill-Toolen Catholic.
