Head coach Ralph Watson’s Admirals (2-0) connected on 11-of-16 three-pointers in the win. Bayside is playing without several key players who will join the team after the football season.

“I was proud of us winning our first road game with such a young team,” Watson said. “We started two freshman and a sophomore. We don’t have our football guys, but I liked the way we responded after they jumped on us 9-3 early on.”

Bayside fell behind 9-3 in the first period, but rallied back to take a 14-13 lead after one and a 34-30 lead at the half. Newman made three of his three-pointers in the third period and the Admirals extended the lead to 54-45.

“I thought our eyes got a little big when we got behind in a tough road environment,” Watson said. “But then I thought we settled in and did a nice job, made some shots. Channing Brodie got us going with some threes early and that built our confidence.”

Channing Brodie had 16 points, while Dakota Brodie had 10 and Nelson Newman added eight in the win for Bayside, who hosts Escambia County at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayside Academy Admiral Classic tournament on Monday. Randolph and Clarke County are also in the tournament, which runs Monday through Wednesday.

“I was proud of us for getting a road win,” Watson said. “(Gulf Shores) is hard to play here. They are bigger and stronger than us inside and we got in foul trouble early. (Gulf Shores coach) Clint Wigley does a good job with them. His kids played really hard and I’m proud that we found a way to win.”

Jeffrey Ybarra led Gulf Shores (0-4) with 15 points, while Richard Guyer had 14, Daniel Laborde 13 and Isaac Ronan 11. The Dolphins will play in the Walton Tournament in Defuniak Springs, Fla. on Monday.

GIRLS: The Bayside Academy Lady Admirals defeated Gulf Shores 36-34 on Thursday in “the Tank” at Gulf Shores High.

Jhalen Caffey led the Admirals (2-0) with 15 points, while Virginia Pittman added 13 and Harper Morrison scored six in the win. Bayside will host the Admiral Classic starting on Monday.

Hannah Tilley had 15 points on five three-pointers, Chloe Roberts added 11 and Morgan Campbell scored eight for Gulf Shores (1-3). The Dolphins visit Foley at 6 p.m. on Nov. 27.
