DAPHNE — The Bayside Academy Admirals took a huge 8-6 win Friday night in game one of their 3A Area 1 series with Cottage Hill Christian. The night cap tie-breaker game went the Warriors’ way, however, in another 8-6 nail biter.

Bayside coach Doug Leffard said he and his players expected a fight.

"Cottage Hill is always going to battle and coach Brazeal always does a great job of getting them ready," he said. "We know it's going to be tough every time we step on the field with them for one thing and that's what it turned into tonight. I'm proud of our kids the way we fought and came back in the first game and I'm sure he's proud of his team for coming back in the second game. This was just two good teams getting after it and that's what this area race is about."

The first and third games of the series count as area contests so Bayside emerged with a 3-0 record in Area 1 with area wins over Choctaw County, T.R. Miller and CHC. The Admirals' next area test will be in a home stand against T.R Miller April 2 at 4 p.m. The Admirals we're 16-4 overall as of the win Friday.

"We're at the mid point in the area," Leffard said. "And we just have to work hard and improve. And this bunch will do that. This is a good group of hard working kids with great senior leadership and they all come to play tough and play hard and they work to get better and better everyday."

In game one Friday, Joby Allen drove in Scooter Blake and Josh Vernor to break a 6-6 tie in the sixth to put the Admirals up for good 8-6.

Joe Vincent went six innings to get the win with Daniel Beebe taking the save in the top of the seventh.

Beebe also added a pair of RBIs off a hit and a double and had a Sac Bunt. Geoffrey Brooks also had a double in game one.

In game two, Bayside built a lead and held it at 6-4 until the sixth, but a grand slam by Cody Stokes for CHC put the Warriors ahead for the 8-6 win. Lee Cockrell got the win. Beebe struck out 13 Warriors in a five-hit, three-walk, no-decision start but exited early.

At the plate, Beebe hit the center field wall on a double for two RBIs. Justin Raines and Vincent also had an RBI each for the Admirals, Allen was 2-4 with a double and Brooks had a lead-off hit in the fourth for Bayside.
