Alabama Farmers Federation commodity leaders met in Birmingham Feb. 7-9 to elect leaders and discuss goals and issues for the year. Nearly 700 farmers representing 16 commodities attended the Annual Commodity Producers Organizational Conference. During the Feb. 8 luncheon, Jimmie Fidler of Baldwin County was recognized for his service to the State Horticulture Committee. Fidler began farming in 1962 with only 313 peanut seeds. He has since expanded to producing 50,000 pounds of peanuts each year. He also has 125 brood cows and 160 acres of pecans. Fidler and his wife, Fae, have been married for 50 years and are known for their jumbo peanuts, which they often toss at several Mardi Gras parades.
