LOXLEY, Alabama — Bennett Baker of Tallahassee, Fla., closed the deal on his first AJGA victory with a 6-under-par 66 to win the AT&T Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T by six strokes. Taylor Coleman of San Antonio, shot a 3-over-par 75 and held on to win by five strokes.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T was a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-72 Steelwood Country Club. The event featured 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 13 states, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Japan. The Boys Division played the course at 7,005 yards while the Girls Division played the course at 5,941 yards.

Fairhope's Virginia Green finished sixth on the girls side with a +9 score.

After holing eight birdies in the second round, Baker’s putter stayed hot for Thursday’s final round and produced seven more birdies and an eagle.

“I just made everything I looked at today and played real well and managed to stay calm in the process,” said Baker, who finished the tournament with a three-day total of 14-under-par 202. “I’ve started to play really well lately and have been practicing hard. It was good to see it pay off.”

Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Miss., finished in second with a three-day total of 8-under-par 208. Matthew Perrine of Austin, Texas, took third with a 7-under-par 209 total. David Mackey of Bogart, Ga., finished fourth at 5-under-par 211, while Connor Slane of Helena, Ala., and Connor Smith of Birmingham, Ala., shared fifth place at 4-under-par 212.

In the Girls Division, Coleman started her round with a front-nine 3-over-par 39, but was able to keep the nerves at bay and rallied to finish with an even-par 36 on the back nine.

“After I had a few bad holes I knew I could not get upset because I still had the lead,” said Coleman. “I knew if I could still finish strong I would probably win.”

Coleman finished the tournament with a three-day total of 6-under-par 210. Anna Newell of Tampa, Fla., finished second with a 1-under-par 215. Rachel Dai of Milton, Ga., finished the event in third at 1-over-par 217.
