Jack Akins, 66, a native of Goodway and a resident of Bay Minette, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at his residence.
He was a dock worker with AAA Cooper Truck Lines (retired) and was also a butcher for 20 years. His passions were were first and foremost, helping others. He would help someone else before he would think about anything he needed. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and shrimping. He also loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Akins and Gladys Thomley; grandson, Caleb Rider; and two brothers, Bobby Perry and Joe Akins.
Survivors include his wife, Dale Moorer Akins of Bay Minette; three children Gary (Yolanda) Akins of Bay Minette, Mike (April) Akins of Perdido and Darlene (Hurley) Rider of Bay Minette; six grandchildren, Nicole Akins, Monica Akins, Debbie Akins, Chasity Lane, Shawn Stuckey and Mackenzie Rider; two great-grandchildren, Symonie Wasden and Skyler Wasden;; one brother, Jerry Akins of Bay Minette; and two sisters, Frances Attkison of Pensacola, Fla., and Jody (Jerry) Dickie of Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 22 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. Julian Walthall officiating. Burial followed at Cook Memorial Chapel Cemetery in Bromley.
Active pallbearers were, Shawn Stuckey, Harold Fretwell, Albert Wasden, Jeremy McKissack, Rob Wallace and Ronnie Wallace.
Arrangements were made by Norris Funeral Home, Bay Minette.
