DAPHNE, Ala.—John Jackson, historian with the Baldwin County Archives, said between 200 and 250 historians from Alabama selected Daphne for this year’s 54th annual convention because of the rich history of the area.
“They will come together … to meet one another and talk about their studies, talk about what they have done in the past year,” Jackson said.
While the group is in town they will present papers and take field trips to local historical sites including the Old Methodist Church Museum of Daphne, Malbis Greek Orthodox Church and Village Point Park Preserve Friday afternoon. They also can see an archeological dig in old Mobile. Participants will select which site interests them the most to visit.
“They try to choose a different area in Alabama to visit each year. It has been at least five years since they have been here,” Jackson said.
Ken Balme, the Daphne museum’s president, said he expects three groups of the association’s members to pass through the musueum Friday.
