Foley's Cedrix Reed rushed for a 6.3 yard average per carry, helping Alabama hang on for a tough 21-16 win over Mississippi in the annual high school All-Star Game in Montgomery. Reed rushed for 57 yards -- most of that in the game's first half -- to pace a dominant opening for the 'Bama stars. Baldwin County was well represented once again in the game. In addition to Reed and Cook, local All-Stars included Nate Andrews and John-Patrick Sterling from Fairhope, Alfred Jenkins of Daphne, Forest Garner from Baldwin County High, along with Foley's Alontal Adams and Darius Paige. Foley's Todd Watson also served as linebacker coach for the Alabama All-Star squad.
Alabama led 15-0 at halftime, before a spirited comeback from the Mississippi high school stars trimmed the margin to a a one-score game in the 4th quarter.
MVP of this year's game was Jason Smith, from McGill-Toolan in Mobile. Chris Jones earned MVP honors for the Mississippi stars. The MVP of last year's game was Daphne's T.J. Yeldon, who has gone on to star at running back in his true-freshman season for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and will play in the BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame on Jan. 7 (2013).
