FOLEY — The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce’s second Leadership Lunch of 2013 is scheduled for next week.

The catered lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Foley Civic Center. Tickets purchased by Friday are $12 per person. After that, they are $15 per person. However, none will be sold at the door.

Speaking at noon at the event will be Alabama Department of Transportation Director John Cooper, who will provide an update on vital transportation routes on Baldwin and Mobile counties.

“That’s critically important,” Chamber CEO/President Donna Watts said in a phone interview. “It’s a national issue.”

She credits both the Beach Expressway and the Mobile Bay Bridge with bringing both visitors and commerce into the two counties. But improvements still need to be made, particularly with Baldwin infrastructure.

“Here we are in 2013, and we still only have one main road in and out of Baldwin County,” Watts said.

She explained that Cooper’s discussion is an opportunity to be informed so they can be part of that infrastructure’s improvement.

“It’s important for people to be involved,” Watts said.

Cooper has been ALDOT director since the beginning of Gov. Robert Bentley’s administration in January 2011. Prior to that, he served for six years as chief executive officer at Avocent Corporation in Huntsville, which provides global information in information, technology, infrastructure and management.
