Alfred “Fred” Thomas

Alfred “Fred” Thomas, 92, a native of Crenshaw County, and a resident of Robertsdale, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012.

Mr. Thomas was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. He was awarded The Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was owner and operator of Thomas Grocery in Robertsdale and served two terms as councilman for the city of Robertsdale.

In 1980, Mr. Thomas retired from Armour’s Packing Co. He enjoyed fishing and the out of doors. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Thomas; son, Glenn Howard Thomas; two sisters and six brothers. He is survived by daughter, Jeanette (John) Cain of Robertsdale,; three sons, Alfred P. (Frances) Thomas of Chickasaw, James F. (Mary) Thomas of Douglasville, Ga., and Dewey B. Thomas of Silverhill; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb.10, 2012, at noon  at the Salem Church of Christ in Highland Home, with burial in the Salem Church of Christ Cemetery, Highland Home. A visitation will beThursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mack Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include  Tony Thomas, Larry Thomas, David Thomas, Dennis Gentry, Andy Weaver, Joey Weaver, Kyle Wasdin and Ricky Miller Sr.
