Alice Ann Hinger, 83, a native of Newark, Ohio and resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014.
She attended the University of South Alabama, Troy State University and Alabama State University, earning a master’s degree and A.A. in elementary education.
Alice enjoyed teaching at Loxley Elementary for 23 years, and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa.
She was president of the Jaycettes in Newark and lifetime member of Pythian Sisters Lodge.
After moving to Spanish Fort, she was president of the Garden Club and Spanish Fort Elementary School PTA, was Spanish Fort Neighbor of the Year, a Girl Scout leader, member of Heisey Collectors of America and served as president/festival chair of the Mobile Square Dancers Association.
Alice served as president of the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary and as state chairman of the Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliary until her illness in 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lillybell Bragg.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Carl E. Hinger of Spanish Fort; daughters, Elizabeth Hinger Osborne and her husband Col. William R. Osborne, USAF (Ret.) of Fountain Inn, S.C. and Diana Hinger Cogdill and her husband, Joseph Cogdill Jr. of Simpsonville, S.C.; son, David Hinger and his wife Carla Smith Hinger of Madison; and grandchildren, Daniel Osborne, Robert Osborne, Brian Hinger, Brittany Hinger and Katherine Cogdill.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, from 5-7 p.m., at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Fairhope Christian Church.
Interment will be at a later date in Newark, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thomas Hospital Foundation or Fairhope Christian Church.
