Foley, Ala. — Alice Ruth Meader, 92, entered in to rest on Monday, May 18, 2015.
Ruth was born on Nov. 12, 1922, in Mobile, Ala. to the late Joseph Sellers and Jane Carr McKinley. She was a 1941 graduate of Foley High School.
Ruth retired from Monsanto Co. after 20-plus years of dedicated service.
While working shift work and commuting to Pensacola for over two decades, Ruth also worked part-time at Wright’s Drug Store. She was especially fond of her time spent at the pharmacy. Ruth loved seeing the customers and serving her community.
Ruth was an avid reader and never missed the daily Mobile Press Register. She loved reading poetry and even dabbled in writing her own.
After growing up during the Great Depression, Ruth never forgot her roots and drew strength from the core values her parents instilled in their family.
Later in life, Ruth came to know Christ and followed in believer’s baptism near her 80th birthday.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Robert E. Meader; and she was the last surviving sibling of the five McKinley children, Emmett, Billy, Ethel and Eleanor.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her son, Jack Bryan (Sonya Stangeland), Milton, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Meader, Foley; granddaughters, Brandy Bryan, Warner Robins, Ga.; Sharon Meader, Foley; three great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Sherman and Joyce Dyess; and all of the former and current employees of Wright’s Drug Store.
