Aline Mildred Riggs, 88, passed away July 29, 2014 at West Gate Nursing home In Brewton.
She was born Aline Mildred Stapleton on Sept. 8, 1925 to the late Della and Raymond Stapleton of Fairhope.
She was married 67 years to the late Stephen Stiger Riggs. Aline and Steve enjoyed raising a family of six children in Fairhope’s idyllic setting on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay.
Aline was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Aline and Steve were devout Christians and members of St. James Episcopal Church of Fairhope.
Aline was a vivacious, generous woman. After raising her six children, she enjoyed developing her talent in drawing, painting and sculpture at the Eastern Shore Art Association of Fairhope.
Aline’s six children are Aline Thaden of Schwenksville, Pa., Gretchen Amazeen of Bowie, Md., Carrie Brown of Brewton, Lloyd Riggs of Auburn, the late Carl Riggs of Mobile and Blanche Smith of Spanish Fort. Aline is survived by 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John P. Stapleton of Bonita Springs, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Eastern Shore Art Center of Fairhope.
There will be a memorial service held for Aline Riggs on Aug. 16, 2014, at 10 a.m., at St. James Episcopal Church of Fairhope.
