DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Police Department seeks a couple who allegedly stole a woman’s purse from her parked, unlocked vehicle at the Daphne YMCA on Dec. 16 at around 9:30 a.m.

About an hour later, the suspects—a black male and  female—attempted to use the victim’s credit card at Wal-Mart to purchase a flat-screen TV, storage bins and a Britney Spears DVD, according to authorities.

The suspects were surveilled on the store security camera when the victim’s credit card was declined, according to police, who said that when the transaction failed, the couple fled.

“They just walked out of the store when the card was declined,” police Lt. Jud Beedy said.

The Daphne Police Department is unclear why the card was declined.

“It wasn’t canceled,” Beedy said. “Maybe the transaction went over the card’s limit.”

The victim’s purse contained credit cards and a cell phone, according to Beedy.

The Daphne Police Department asks that anyone with information about the suspects call 621-9100.
