DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne East Elementary named Allyson Stewart its 2010 “Teacher of the Year.”

She has been teaching for more than 18 years, and she teaches special-education children in kindergarten through third grade at the school.

She graduated from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in special education, and then earned her master’s degree in special-education collaborative teaching.

The Magnolia Springs resident said she has lived in Baldwin County all her life.

“I attended Baldwin County schools, and I graduated from Foley High School,” she said.

The Bulletin spoke with Stewart about her teaching strategies, her favorite part about being a teacher and whether she believes teachers have gained respect from the community.
