Alma Juanita Allen Anderson, 94, of Liveoak Village in Foley, formerly of Bon Secour, died July 1, at the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.
Born April 24, 1920 in Mobile, Juanita was a member of the Allen and Witt families who were among Bon Secour’s earliest residents.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, and a trustworthy confidante and friend to many.
She was an excellent cook, a well-loved gumbo-maker and cookbook contributor, and a fun-loving and lively social companion who loved dancing and travel.
She was formerly a waitress and praline-maker at Meme’s Restaurant and the custodian for St. Peter’s Church in Bon Secour.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren DeWitt Anderson Sr.; parents, John R. and Mary E. Allen; and brothers, Lloyd (Mildred) and John (Mildred) Allen.
She is survived by children, Dewitt Anderson (Lisa), J.R. (Reggie) Anderson (Diana), Mary Anderson Allen and Clinton Anderson (Joe Martin); a brother, Thomas Allen (Marijeanne); seven grandchildren, Angela Payne (Rob), Devani Davis (Jason), Mary M. Anderson, DeAnn Lee (Jimbo), Blair (Heidi) and John (Kristina) White and Dayla Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren, Weston and Ethan Payne, Cameron, Collin and Chevy Davis, Zachary and Lauren Stewart and Jenna Lee, Emma, Madison, Autumn and Lillian White; three nieces, Sue Allen, Philomene Meriwether (Charles) and Mary Jean Phillips (Doug); five nephews, John, Arvia (Linda), Richard (Sherry) and Ian Allen, and Edsel Anderson (Launa); dear friends, Louise Taylor and Faye Rachel; and many friends and relatives in the community.
A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Bon Secour, where she served in the Women of the Church, on the Parish Vestry as junior warden and in the choir.
She was the organizer and administrator of Witt-Brown Cemetery and a volunteer for the Clothes Closet.
Burial will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2014, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. and burial immediately following at Witt-Brown Cemetery.
Following the burial, the Women of St. Peter’s Church will host family and friends in the youth room at the church.
