BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Alpha Delta Kappa’s Gamma Gamma Chapter in north Baldwin County seemed to serve up a successful event last week as the honorary organization of women educators’ annual “Taste of ADK” fundraiser drew a full crowd.
Held Thursday evening at the First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette Family Life Center, the third annual event raised funds for the organization’s scholarship program.
“The money goes to a student of Baldwin County High School who chooses to go into education,” said ADK Chapter President Myra Schramm during the event.
The funding is significant, as tickets to Thursday’s event were $5 each.
“We printed 285 tickets,” Schramm said.
Those tickets provided the opportunity to taste soups and salads prepared from the organization’s third annual cookbook, a fundraiser held in tandem with the tasting.
“The first one was on desserts, and last year we did appetizers,” Schramm said of the previous cookbooks.
But that’s not all the evening offered. Participants had the opportunity to bid for a number of donated items at a silent auction, Schramm explained.
Funds raised by those three sources will not only help launch a future educator’s career, they will also be used to benefit other causes, including St. Jude’s Hospital and the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Awareness. Thus, a lot of effort went into making sure the yearly event leaves participants well fed.
“This is really the only big fundraiser we have all year,” she said.
