Alton Lloyd Simmons, 81, a native of Mobile and resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.

He graduated from Murphy, class of 1951.

Alton was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and the Straights of Formosa, spending 44 months in the Pacific aboard the U.S. Navy Destroyer O’Bannon 450.

Alton retired as a supervisor at BellSouth Telephone Co. after 35 years of service.

He was a life member of VFW Post 5660 in Fairhope, a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America, past president of Spanish Fort Civitan Club and lieutenant governor of Alabama West Florida District–Civitan International.

He is survived by his loving wife, Emily P. Simmons; and their son, Alton Brett Simmons, both of Spanish Fort; their daughter, Sonia (Billy) Dismukes of Mobile; a sister, Dolores Simmons of Mobile; sister-in-law, Florence Vernon of Grand Bay; grandchildren, Chad Graddick, Andrew Dismukes, Brandon Simmons and Lawson Simmons; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Interment will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.
