FOLEY, Ala. - Residents are invited to attend the 24-hour amateur radio marathon this weekend at the Lillian Recreation Center, joining thousands of ham radio operators.

The amateur radio marathon will begin Saturday at 1 ap.m. and end Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Lillian Amateur Radio Club will participate in the ARRL Field Day 24-hour contest and many others from around the world also will participate. All ages are welcome and no radio license is necessary to speak with someone from across the globe.

The slogan "when all else fails, amateur radio always works" comes from the fact that amateur radios communicate over short and long distances without a normal communication infrastructure, which could prove helpful in emergency situations.
