Winton T. “Bill” Ames, 85, a native of Hampton, Va., and a resident of Daphne, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at a local hospital in Fairhope.

He served as an engineer in the Merchant Marines during World War II and years following he entered into a long enjoyable career in the Maritime industry. He was an Eagle Scout and strong supporter of the Boy Scouts. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy D. Ames of Daphne; four children, Beth (Thorn) Thomas of Fairhope, Cindy (Steve) Becker of Spanish Fort, Tom Ames and Mandy Ames, both of Daphne; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Daphne.
