Leon Amos, 87, a lifelong resident of Robertsdale, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, with his family and friends at his bedside.

He was a member of the Robertsdale First Baptist Church for 65 years and served as an usher for many years. He was an avid gardener and loved sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He will be dearly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him, and those he greeted, as a caring usher, at the entrance of his church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Luckie Amos; daughter Joan (Richard) McKibbon of Robertsdale; one grandson, Lee (Nina) McKibbon; four great-grandchildren, Mary-Ellen, Shelby, Adriana and Gage McKibbon of Elberta; sister, Kathryn Holland of Elgin, S.C.; and one uncle, William Mayo of Bay Minette.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 13 at Robertsdale First Baptist Church with Brother Jeff Copeland and Brother Richard Hebert officiating.

Active pallbearers were John Greggs, Ronnie Boykin, Joe Sopr, Pat Duck, Brent Kendrick and Ron Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Parker Sr., Arthur Parker Jr., Charlie Murphy and Larry Robinson, all ushers of his church.

Interment followed at Hail Cemetery in Robertsdale.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church of Robertsdale, P.O. Box 1140, Robertsdale, AL 36567.

Arrangements were made by Hughes Creamtion and Funeral Services, Daphne.
