Hi readers. My name is Cathy Higgins, and I’m excited to let you know I’ll be serving as the editor of The Foley Onlooker, beginning with today’s edition. So I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself.
Although I’m new to the post, I’m no stranger to The Onlooker, as I’ve actually been with Gulf Coast Newspapers since August 2010, serving as editor of The Baldwin Times in Bay Minette. You may have read some of my articles from time to time when issues I’ve covered there affected the South Baldwin County area.
I’m also no stranger to the newspaper industry, itself. I’m bringing with me more than a dozen years of full-time experience in the journalism field, having worked with newspapers in Tennessee and Georgia, as well as north and central Alabama. I earned my bachelor’s degree in journalism from Jacksonville State University in my hometown of Jacksonville in the northeast region of the state.
Speaking of JSU, I was so excited to find out that several hundred fellow Gamecocks have made Baldwin County their home. If you’re one of them, be sure and drop me a line to say hello.
As part of my transition process, I’m planning a relocation to Foley. So I’m eager to get to know you all as my neighbors, as well.
I’m looking forward to switching my focus to the Onlooker coverage area, and I welcome your ideas, news tips and opinions. So feel free to contact me at onlooker@gulfcoastnewspapers.com or 943-2151 any time.
