ROSINTON, Ala. — “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”…

That was the theme of the day as 311 runners braved the soggy weather at Rosinton Elementary School Armadillo Dash 5K and 1 mile Fun Run this past Saturday morning.

Half of that number, 125 runners, were students from Rosinton who participate in the “Rosinton Runners” club sponsored by P.E. Coach Whitney Stephens.

With a starting time of 9 a.m., the 3.2 mile loop course wound itself through rural terrain and a few hills in the Rosinton community. The one mile fun run began at 10 a.m.

The overall male winners were Rodney Smith (1st) , Paul Taylor (2nd), and Morgan Adam (3rd) and the overall female winners were Katy Hines (1st), Rachel Wigstrom (2nd), and Hannah Owens (3rd).

Winners in the male walker division were Laren Powers (1st), John Walters (2nd) and Peter Rambacher (3rd) and winners in the female walker division were Sharlene Chandler (1st), Robin Phillips (2nd) and Kristin Bentley (3rd). Male masters winners were Dennis Young (1st) and Jim Batchelor (2nd). Female masters winners were Maureen Higgins (1st), Jackie Steadham (2nd) and JoAnn Hubbard (3rd). Male grandmaster winners were Henry Clark (1st), Alan Lee (Baldwin County BOE Superintendent) (2nd) and Richard Tharp (3rd). Male senior grandmasters winners were Lee Echols (1st), Ed Hill (2nd) and George Freeman (3rd). Female grandmasters winners were Carolyn Dunbar (1st) and Mary Tarleton (2nd).

Trophies were awarded for top three in overall, walker, master, grandmaster and senior grandmaster and medals were given for top three male and female in each of the age divisions.

Winners in age divisions were: Male 0-7, Andrew Neuschwander, Female 0-7, Chyan Redd, Male 8-10, Wyatt Redd, Female 8-10, Chloee Lynn, Male 11-12, Lane Pope, Male 13-14, Jason Jordan, Female 13-14, Sarah Forland, Female 15-18, Jessie Grovenstein, Male 19-29, David Parker, Female 19-29, Michelle Forland, Male 30-39, Daniel McCrory, Female 30-39, Christina Nolte, Male 40-49, Todd Wilson, Female 40-49, Diane Gilliam.

In addition to the run, RES had its annual Spring Fling and silent auction held in the cafeteria and library. A bouncy house complete with slide was set up in the gym and an Easter egg hunt was held in the library due to the weather. Students also had a chance to bake and decorate cakes for the cakewalk held in the foyer and an Armadillo Crawl took place in the foyer for the little ones where they crawled to a waiting beach ball held by older students.

A silent auction was held in the cafeteria with several themed baskets full of all sorts of fun items donated by area businesses.

All money raised from both events goes to support programs at Rosinton Elementary school and sponsors for this year’s race included; The Insurance Center, Inc,, Country Convenience Store, Coca-Cola, Statska Insurance, Loxley Optimist Club, Monsanto, Citizens Bank, Celebrations Garden and Home, Campbell Hardware, Sweat Tire, Cain’s Grocery, D and D Quality Service, Dr. Brian Pierce, Central Baldwin Chiropractic Center, Goodrich, Baldwin EMC, Rosinton Fire Department, AGRI AFC, Young’s Cabinet Shop, Racine’s Feed, Garden and Supply, Inc., Robertsdale Rotary Club, Burris Farm Market, Dr, Keith Cooper Chiropractic Associates, Road ID, Styx River Volunteer Fire Department, United Bank, Wal-Mart, Sam;s Club, Publix, Silver Basket and Vision Bank.

RES PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) was in charge of the silent auction and Spring Fling and was instrumental in getting all the donations together and setting everything up.

“We are so thankful for all our sponsors from the community and everyone who helped out with the event. We could not have done any of it without them and are amazed at the way everyone helped out. It was an incredible event,” said PTO members.
