The 2010-11 Robertsdale High School Golden Bear band had a banner year and to make it even better, Bryant Ramey, a graduating senior, received a very sweet surprise at the Spring Percussion Concert.
David and Linda Anderson, parents of former band member Sarah Anderson, who was killed in a November 2009 car accident, awarded Ramey a $1,000 scholarship to go toward his studies at the University of South Alabama.
The Andersons decided to give this scholarship to one senior band member each year to carry on Sarah’s memory and provide a band member financial assistance. “This is so special for us because Bryant ‘s sister knew Sarah and went to school with her and Bryant and Sarah were also friends as well.
And the fact he is a drummer makes it special too because (husband) David is also a drummer,” Anderson said. RHS Band Director Doug Brasell and RHS Principal Theresa Bryant also helped with the recommendation of Ramey.
Drum Majors for the 2011-12 school year were named as well and are Weezie Jefferds and Alex Wheeler. Brasell and the Andersons presented certificates to the duo at the Spring Football game on Friday, May 13.
