Nine students competed for the title of Central Baldwin Middle School Spelling Bee Winner on Dec. 6. Of the nine students in competition, five were seventh-graders: Austin Owens, Brianna Potts, Alex Reaves, Dalton Wallace, and Mary Watkins. The eighth-graders included Laura Lindell, Sophia Nudo, Michael Peterson, and Andrew Williams. These nine students advanced to the second round Spelling Bee out of 44 participants.

The second round Spelling Bee offered stiff competition as the nine spellers spelled through six rounds. Sophia Nudo and Andrew Williams battled for first place.

To win the competition, Andrew had to correctly spell “philosophize” and “resuscitable.”

Congratulations to Andrew and Sophia for their success in the CBMS Spelling Bee Competition! Andrew will advance to the Baldwin County Spelling Bee competition scheduled in February.

This year’s win marks the fourth time Andrew has been the winner of a school Spelling Bee. He has won the County Spelling Bee three times and has represented Baldwin County in three State Spelling Bees.

Last year he placed sixth out of 67 students participating in the State Spelling Bee competition.
