FOLEY, Ala. — Registration for The Salvation Army's 2007 "Angel Tree" program for the South Baldwin area will conclude on Friday, Nov. 16.
Edith Belder-Eslava, manager of The Salvation Army Thrift Store at 2015 N. McKenzie St. in Foley, is coordinating her fourteenth "Angel Tree" this year. She is also volunteer coordinator for the Salvation Army in the South Baldwin area.
The "Angel Tree" program brings a little Christmas magic to needy children and makes it possible for individuals, groups, schools, businesses and partnerships to personalize gifts by "adopting an Angel."
Registration will take place through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No makeup days will be observed or late registration, according to Belder-Eslava.
Those who are Hispanic and require an interpreter should be at the Thrift Store between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
All requirements for registration in the "Angel Tree" program will be posted at the Thrift Store in English and Spanish, Belder-Eslava said.
The "Angel Tree" program is for any child not currently registered through any other Christmas program, including those being conducted by churches.
Angels will be available for adoption starting Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving, up until Dec. 10. The Angel tree will be located at the Food Court at Tanger Outlet and all gifts must be brought to the Food Court no later than Dec. 14.
Those desiring to register for the "Angel Tree" program must have the following:
• A photo ID.
• Proof of current address.
• A home telephone number currently operable. If the registrant doesn't have a telephone, a reliable number should be given by which the registrant can be reached during the day and identification of the number (mother's, sister's, neighbor's, etc.).
• A Social Security card.
• Proof of all income: Food stamps notice of action letter, Social Security, SSI, Head of Household's salary, TANF (AFDC), Section 8, unemployment checks, etc.
• A person not receiving income will need to give the name of the person responsible for his/her bills, the relationship to the registrant, and a phone number where the person can be reached.
• For each registrant's child 12 years of age and under the following information will be needed: Social Security card and official record showing full birth date of a child (a Medicaid card meets the full criteria for this as well as a Social Security card).
A registrant expecting a baby by December will need to bring a copy of the Alabama Medicaid card for the unborn.
A registrant also needs to know the county of residency and zip code. Any item(s) of information missing at the time of the application will void the application process. The applicant will be asked to obtain the information and return.
