Annie Hankins Williams, born May 12, 1918 in Fairhope, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.
In 1951, she united in Holy Matrimony to Oscar A. Williams. After their marriage, Oscar and Annie Williams relocated to Wheaton, Ill., where she attended the Second Street Baptist Church and was a member of the Choir. Her community outreach included her membership in The Caravan Women Association.
They resided in Wheaton for a number of years and in 1972 returned to their hometown of Fairhope. On April 1, 1975, her husband of 25 years died.
She was a member of the prominent Hankins Family whose roots were firmly positioned in the Historic Twin Beech Community. She attended Anna T. Jeans School in Fairhope for her early childhood education and furthered her education at Baldwin County Training School in Daphne.
Her Christian nurturing was instilled by her attendance at Twin Beech A.M.E. Zion Church, Fairhope. She loved serving God. She was committed to the Twin Beech A.M.E. Zion church family where she served in several capacities; among those, she was a class leader, choir member, member of the Trustee Board, The Missionary Board and was committed to the teachings in the Adult Sunday School Class. She was always willing to assist whenever and wherever she was called.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dellie and Cassie Gross Hankins; her husband, Oscar A. Williams; two sons, George Clayborne and Wilbert Clayborne; stepson, Herzoll Williams; and daughter-in-law, Mary Clayborne.
Survivors include a sister, Corine Hankins Craig of Birmingham; step-daughter, Marshall Williams of Mobile; two daughters-in-law, Gloria Clayborne of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Dorothy A. Williams of Fairhope; grandchildren, Wilbert C. Clayborne Jr., Cynthia Clayborne (Russell) Harris, Jennifer Lynn Clayborne of Rancho Cucamonga, Jeff Clayborne of Tampa, Fla., Ann Clayborne (Tyrone) Groce of Denver, and Alex (Zebra) Clayborne of Turkey; step-grandchildren; Gene, Lyman, Jerome, Regan and Larry Tuggle of Denver; 10 great-grandchildren; goddaughter, Eboru Kelley of Mobile; godson and dedicated caretaker, Rickey Allen of Fairhope; and devoted friends, Amanda Jetson, Eleanor Harpe, Helen Nicholas, Marie Hunter of Fairhope.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Twin Beech A.M.E. Zion Church, 6667 Twin Beech Road, Fairhope. Interment will follow at Twin Beech Cemetery.
