Annual RSVP dinner slated in Bay Minette

BAY MINETTE, Ala.  — The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will recognize volunteers during an awards dinner at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Civic Center in Bay Minette.

RSVP Director Faye Robinson said in an interview that the annualdinner is held to show appreciation “for all the great work they do all year long.”

The Easter-themed event will feature guest speaker and Baldwin County podiatrist Dr. Bradford Egly. It will also include door prizes, tokens of appreciation and such dinner items as chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad, broccoli salad and cupcakes.

Robinson expects 100-125 attendees, including Delores Bert, SAIL nutrition program manager at the senior center, and Lana Palmer, senior center volunteer who received praise from Bert.

“She’s a caregiver,” Bert said in an interview.

Reflecting on her motivation to volunteer, Palmer said she doesn't remember a time in her life that she wasn't caring for others.

“I’ve been doing this since I was 10 years old,” she said in an interview. “I got comfortable with it.”

Robinson said she appreciates these two, along with the other 563 volunteers across Baldwin County who put in approximately 80,000 hours a year.

Bert said that Robinson is valued for her dedication, especially to the annual dinner.

“She does a lot,” she said. “Every year it’s something different. It’s really nice to see the way it’s decorated, and the food is always good.”
