LOXLEY, Alabama — The driver of a heavy duty truck was arrested Saturday morning near the Wilcox Road exit on Interstate 10 after officers with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Interstate interdiction team found approximately 84 pounds of marijuana in a false compartment in a diesel tank located in the bed of her vehicle.
According to a release issued Monday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:30 Saturday morning, members of the BCSO Interstate Interdiction Team stopped a silver 2013 Chevy 3500 HD with an expired Texas temporary tag near the 53 mile marker of Interstate 10.
The vehicle had a tool box and an external L-shaped diesel tank in the bed of the truck. Deputies made contact with the sole occupant/owner Noemi Casique.
While speaking with the driver deputies smelled the odor of unburned marijuana emitting from the diesel tank. While conducting a roadside interview with the driver she was issued a written warning and an asked for consent to search the vehicle. She denied consent, so deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.
During the search a false compartment in the diesel tank was discovered which contained 84 bundles of marijuana, weighing approximately 1 pound each. Members of the Special Operations Unit and the Baldwin County Drug Task Force responded to assist in the investigation.
Also located in the vehicle were three handguns in the passenger compartment of the vehicle in which Casique claimed ownership. ATF was contacted and are considering adopting the case.
Casique, whose address was not given in the online booking report, was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Facility at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, charged with drug trafficking – cannabis. She remains in jail on a $3 million bond.
