Anthony Martez Welker, 40, of Excel, formerly of Atmore, transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile.
He was born in West Germany and reared in Atmore and Perdido.
He was a 1991 graduate of Baldwin County High School. He attended Faulkner State Community College.
He had been a truck driver since 2004, and was recently employed with Phoenix Trucking Co.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed football (Florida State fan), basketball, fishing and auto racing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie McArthur Welker; and his grandparents.
Those left to cherish his life are his wife, Sherie Andrews-Welker of Excel; one son, Dekota Martez Welker of Excel; two stepsons, Damion Andrews and Scotty Andrews, both of Excel; his mother, Linda Judy Bynum-Welker of Tucson, Ariz; one sister, Renee (Eric) Cash of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one granddaughter; and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 1 p.m., at St. Thomas AME Zion Church in Perdido, with the Rev. Humphrey Shuford, pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in the Mt. Shiloh Cemetery in Nokomis.
Viewing will be held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2013, from 11 a.m. until the service time at the church.
