Application under way for Bay Minette Police Youth Academy

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Bay Minette Police Department is currently taking applications for the summer Youth Police Academy that will take place 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each Saturday in August at the Bay Minette Police Department headquarters, located at 300 N. Hoyle Ave.

The academy is designed for young people ages 12-17 and exposes them to the type of training, procedures and technology used by today’s police officers. It gives these “cadets” the opportunity to learn respect for the law by providing them positive interaction with professionals in a variety of public-service organizations and motivating them to be outstanding citizens through law-enforcement education. Cadets will experience hands-on training in a wide variety of law-enforcement techniques.

Classes will be held four consecutive Saturdays, beginning Aug. 6. Students will be provided a uniform T-shirt, ball cap and lunch.

This is not a boot camp, and all interested youth are encouraged to apply. However, space is limited.

Application packets can be obtained at the Bay Minette Police Department 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Application deadline is July 15.
