April 30 is the last chance to catch an afternoon Delta tour at Blakeley this spring

DAPHNE, Ala.— Blakeley State Park offers public boat tours of the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta year-round but the park will switch its trips to morning schedules only in May.

Guided boat tours on the park’s boat “The Delta Explorer” are typically two hours long. The tours are currently available from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. because the weather is usually warmer in the afternoon hours during the spring.

The last afternoon boat ride for Spring will be on April 30 beginning at 1:30 p.m. All boat tours launch from the park’s riverfront dock and seating is on a first come-first serve basis.

The Delta Explorer can hold up to 55 passengers for a trip down multiple rivers to explore the delta’s wildlife and historical sights.

While on the tour, people can expect to see a variety of wildlife. As the weather gets warmer, alligators are more visible and migratory birds are currently building nests. Tourists may see swallowtail kites and ospreys preparing nests.

Park organizers said the tours will be changed to morning hours to try to beat the heat as summer, and hotter weather approaches.

Seats can be booked on any boat tour in advance using a major credit card. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for children 6-12. Children ages 5 and under can take the tour for free.

The park is located on State Highway 225. To reserve seats call 251-626-0798.
