Perdido Elementary students were very excited to have Arkansas Author, David M. Sargent, Jr. visit on Wednesday, April 4. Mr. Sargent talked to the students and teachers about the importance of reading and writing, and he explained how his dogs inspired him to write about the silly things they do and their crazy antics! He encouraged the students to write a book of their own. Students were delighted to meet Emma, Tatum, Daphne and Spike, the characters of Mr. Sargent’s books. As an added treat, Mr. Sargent chose several teachers from the audience to hold the dogs during his presentation.
Now speaking to students all over the United States, David shares his experiences of being a responsible dog lover and of how he became an author. His highly interesting and informative talks are sure to teach children the importance of being able to read and how to use that ability to receive the highest education possible.
David and his books touch the hearts of many. He shows students that anyone can be an author...that authors are real people, just like them. David manages to stimulate the children's story writing ability using the universal love of animals.
