DAPHNE, Alabama - The Daphne Police Department are working with the FBI to determine if the armed man who robbed a BB&T bank this morning was the same perpetrator of a bank robbery in Pensacola Friday afternoon. Surveillance footage from both locations shows a tall, thin, white man wearing a dark blue denim shirt and a black beret. In footage from the Daphne robbery on U.S. Highway 98, a teller can be seen behind open drawers stuffing a large envelope.
Corporal Jason Vannoy of the DPD said this afternoon that the suspect entered the bank at 9:15 a.m. through the front doors and handed a teller a note demanding cash and instructing her not to call 911. The suspect was holding a semiautomatic handgun which he rested on a countertop while the robbery was taking place. The suspect left the bank on foot across Eisenhower Way heading east in the direction of Lake Forest subdivision.
In Pensacola last Friday, a man entered SunTrust Bank on North Davis Highway just before 1 p.m., handed a female teller a note demanding cash, pulled up his shirt to show a pistol tucked into his pants, and fled on foot through a neighborhood after taking an undisclosed amount of money.
Vannoy said he couldn’t speak for the FBI, “but the details of how he robbed the bank in Pensacola and the physical resemblance is very, very similar.” Vannoy said he did not know if the suspect was involved in any other robberies in the area or if any schools or daycares were locked down during the incident.
The suspect was last seen running through a storage facility on Eisenhower Way. Anyone with more information should contact the Daphne Police Department at 251-621-2839.
