Arrests made in Daphne murder

DAPHNE, Ala. - In a rapidly developing story, two Fairhope men were arrested last week in connection with the Aug. 3 murder of Willie Lee Young Jr., in which the victim bled to death after being stabbed multiple times. Charles Frederick Shaver, 23, is accused of stabbing Young 15-20 times in the head, neck and face as they rode in a Chevy Malibu being rented by George T. Richardson, 53.

According to a news release from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was riding in the backseat of the car when Shaver, who was riding in front, turned around and attacked him. Young was dumped from the vehicle injured but alive near the corner of Pollard and Jonesboro roads in Daphne where he tried to find help before succumbing to his injuries.

The release does not identify the driver of the car, but 32-year-old Richard Webb, a third man wanted for questioning in the case, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at his residence in Fairhope Saturday after being named a person of interest. The Sheriff’s Department indicated that the car in which Young was murdered was later taken to Webb’s residence, where it was cleaned. The department indicated that “numerous items of evidence” were found at Webb’s home.

Investigators initially questioned Tashanna Weeks Oliver in the case after identifying her as a possible witness. Oliver was later charged with possession and distribution of a controlled substance.

Shaver, accused of murder, was given a $500,000 bond Friday. Richardson was charged with tampering with physical evidence and obstructing government relations and arrested on two outstanding warrants of possession of a controlled substance and probation violation. He is being held without bond.
