GULF SHORES, AL — Saturday is the date for the Waterway Village Art Market, hosted by the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance, in partnership with the City of Gulf Shores. The event will be from 1- a.m.-4 p.m. at 225 E. 24th Ave. in the beautiful Waterway Village district of Gulf Shores.

Visitors can expect to view original art by local and regional artists. These works will include paintings in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, oil and mixed media. In addition there will be hand made jewelry, metal, wood, pottery and textile art. Acme Oyster House will have a tent with delicious concessions and children can explore the hands-on art activities, which will include a graffiti wall, bubble blowing contests, face painting and many more activities.

One of the jewelry artists who will be displaying her work is Gulf Shores native, Eliza Huskey. Growing up down Fort Morgan Road, she combed the beaches for shells and other items that would wash up. At an early age, Huskey started making collages and driftwood lamps. By age six, she was sewing and weaving nets with her family. At 10 Huskey was making basic jewelry which would evolve into the work she does today.

During her college days at the University of South Alabama, Eliza Huskey made and sold jewelry on the side and taught others along the Gulf Coast. Her favorite method of creativity is sewing tiny glass seed beads with needle and thread. She also loves to upcycle and incorporate vintage elements like buttons, keys, brooches and watches into her designs. These can be viewed at fancygirlstudio.com.
