FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The reputation of Fairhope’s rose garden resulted in the city receiving a holiday invitation from Pennsylvania.
Hershey Gardens, a nationally known 23-acre botanical garden best known for its roses, is displaying Christmas trees filled with ornaments from different states this winter to create awareness of the unique tourism destinations across the nation. Hershey Gardens invited the city of Fairhope to participate in recognition of the city’s award-winning rose garden.
Titled the National Pride Christmas Tree Walk, Hershey Gardens is displaying decorated Christmas trees representing all 50 states as part of their “Classic Christmas.” The display will be open for visitors from the end of November throughout the holiday season.
“The city called me and asked if I had an ornament that could be used for that display,” said local artist Christine Linson.
In addition to issuing limited edition Christmas cards that feature some of her paintings, Linson has been creating Christmas ornaments for seven years. She has offered one that depicts the pier and rose garden for four years. Other designs feature the Fairhope clock, the Grand Hotel, the new LuLu’s, Fairhope Pharmacy and the city’s Welcome Center. Each ornament is a 3.5-inch white ball, painted with her hand-drawn sketch of one of the above local scenes. The ornaments retail for $9.95 each, she said.
Her donated ornament will adorn a tree with other baubles given by other Alabama communities to represent the unique tourism destinations within the state. The Alabama Department of Travel and Tourism assisted with this project.
The Christine Linson Gallery is located at 386 Fairhope Ave. For more information on these holiday ornaments, call 929-2015. For more information on Hershey Gardens, visit www.hersheygardens.org.
